What is a List Serve?
A list serve is a method of linking people with a similar
interest together via email in order to enable easy communication
back and forth between them.
Tell me about eNWI's list serve
At eNWI we use the National Academic Mailing List Service,
Jiscmail
All the old and the current communications which eNWI members
receive directly into their email are also always accessible
via each individual list serve's web page which is maintained
on the host provider (therefore for eNWI, on the Jiscmail
site). However, list serves can either be open to anyone visiting
the main web site to join - or they can be private, open and
accessible from the web/via email only to the members. eNWI
is exactly this - a private list serve. You need to complete
an eNWI Contact Form and be added to our list before you can
access the group via the web page or send and receive eNWI
email messages. In this way you can be sure that communications
which come to you via eNWI come only from people who have
responded to all the questions on the eNWI contact form first.
How do I get added to the List Serve?
Everyone who completes the eNWI Contact Form and confirms
that they wish to join the list serve on the contact form
is added to the eNWI list serve. All the members of the Co-Ordinating
Committee and the Regional Representatives are also automatically
added to the eNWI list.
What happens then?
Once you have been added:
- you will receive a Welcome email from eNWI/Jiscmail
- you receive an email giving you the web address for the
eNWI list serve - where you can find all the old messages
in the Archives, where you can change your Settings to whatever
set up you prefer - or you can leave the list/re-join as
you choose. You can also choose to Post your messages to
the list direct from the eNWI list serve web page if you
prefer to do this rather than by sending a routine email.
- you will start to receive the messages posted by other
eNWI colleagues into your email inbox. Sometimes this will
be information from the Co-ordinating Committee about interesting
Welsh eHealth opportunities or other developments, sometimes
it might be someone seeking a colleague with a similar or
special interest, but most of the time it will be your nursing
colleagues across Wales sharing ideas, thoughts, experiences
and professional issues with you.
- you should remember that the communication content is
entirely dependent upon the members willingness to take
part and communicate/share in this way.
Will I find loads and loads of unwanted extra email
arrives in my inbox? I've already got a huge problem with
spam.
eNWI is a very new list serve. At the moment we ae
at the very early stage of evolution in Wales. We are still
trying to establish the best uses for the list serve. We need
you yourselves to start to use it to communicate about things
you feel you need to share and discuss - the group themselves
then exposes in what way it is most useful to them
- therefore the extra communication is welcomed and needed,
rather than a passive nuisance. Only the members themselves
can really make the list work for them. However, it is always
a great way to let others with a similar interest know about
something you plan to do or want an opinion on.
Please join in and help us make the eNWI list serve
work for nurses in Wales.
