eNWI Blog

This is the page where you will find full information about your very own Blog!

Have a quick look at your Blog then read below and start to get the feel of how it might work for you - the opportunities to use it as a discussion/learning tool without leaving the comfort of your own chair are huge!

Please let us know what you think about it and how you would like to see it developed/used in the future - we want to hear your views!!!

What is a Blog?

You can visit the wikipedia general information - but here is a 'quickie' overview of how we thought we could start it off for eNWI based on questions we thought you might have in your own minds:

I thought ONE person alone owned a Blog and used it to share their thoughts and views etc - how does that compare with all of us in eNWI having a group blog?
Whilst the number of people (Bloggers) who are able to start a new discussion is limited, the number of Bloggers who can contribute to current discussions is limited only by a requirement to register on the site (this helps to control questionable postings from unknown/suspicious origins). So as we start up this option, this means that we can post whatever is currently 'eNWI eHealth' interesting and then have a discussion about it - with whoever wants to join in - as long as they are willing to register with our site. This means that our discussions will be able to be enriched by everyone who is interested - eNWI member or not - or by nurses anywhere in the world!

Yes, but what if I want to talk about something only with eNWI nurses/Welsh nurses?
You still have your own eNWI Listserve which, if accessed via the eNWI Listserve web page has a 'closed to eNWI members only' discussion room.... In the future we can increasingly develop use of this discussion room - if that is what you prefer... Or you could just send round an email on the listserve - the choice is yours, have a try with all the options and start to use the technology in the way best suited to you. All we've done is set up options for you.

What if I want to start a NEW Blog discussion on our Blog?
No problem. As we all get used to using Blogs - and you all let us know about your thoughts and recommendations (via Listserve) - then there is no reason whatsoever why all eNWI members shouldn't have password access to start new Blogs on the site. Or we might just add those with items or issues that they wish to post in a Blog type forum - it depends what you want.

I'm fearful of putting my thoughts onto a Blog where so many people might read them - what if I'm wrong or they think I'm silly?
This is very understandable - but it is the very anxiety that stops nurses and nursing sharing things as often as not! The beauty of a Blog is that it is more like a Coffee break coversation in the canteen, floating thoughts, ideas and/or experiences with colleagues than any sort of 'academic discourse' where you're often fearful that 'someone more clever' (unlikely anyway!) might make you feel/look silly... It is up to us at eNWI to set the tone of our site. To make it friendly, inviting, all encompassing - and striving to ensure we are inclusive of everyone's opinions and thoughts and not 'exclusive'.

OK, I'm ready to try it - where do I start?
We thought it would be really good to start with a 'homegrown' Welsh nurse initiative - something which is very relevant at the moment - and that is how do we record what we really do with clients/what they really need? In short 'What information should nurses collect about nursing and client needs?'. There is a group in Bangor who have been having some initial thoughts about this - and they've come up with an early 'model' which they hope might work as a starting point for consideration - with respect to every practice environment!

We are hoping that this early model of an idea (or concept) might stimulate you to say 'Does this model relate to my/our area?'. In order to get you really interested here is a message from Dr Rodney Hughes (Chair of eNWI Co-ordinating Comitee):

"Hello there!
This model and the accompanying text describe the picture we have of what are the essential pieces of information that need to be collected about nursing activity. Use the text to follow the model - this describes why it looks at it does.

As you read you will see that the development owes more to ‘brainstorming’ than sophisticated ‘brain using’. Nevertheless we think we have something worth sharing!!

It is, like all ‘great works’, incomplete and needs other nurses to look at it and comment - adding their skills and experience to give it more strength and depth.

On the other hand……..some people may feel that it’s all wrong, if so tell us.

If you want to be anonymous that’s OK, but it would be better to have a dialogue rather than single comments.

Come on, join in. We in North Wales don’t have all the answers!! Only most of them.

Sincerely,

Rodney Hughes "

We hope you will now feel enthused to visit your new Blog site and join in!
