26th September 2003 : The Nursing Professions Information Group (NPIG)
comprises of 3 representatives and a deputy from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Royal College of Midwives (RCM), Community Practitioners & Health Visitors Association (CPHVA) and the Nursing Specialist Group of the British Computer Society(BCS NSG). Members are nominated for a three year term by their professional body and are from a clinical, managerial, educational or specialist information management and technical backgrounds. The term of office can now be extended to 6 years by the professional body if the individual is serving some time on a project or in a position and it is felt it is for the betterment of NPIG and the professional body. This group has been in operation about 7 years. It forms a multidisciplinary group and acts as a conduit between the Department of Health, NHS Information Policy Unit, NHS Information Authority and the professions offering advice on key documents, raising awareness on the clinical agenda and involving colleagues with projects.
